STEAM Workshops
We offer a variety of unique workshops and programs. Every workshop is led by industry professionals who have experience working on films, television shows, and commercials.
Our workshops teach students digital literacy skills, digital content creation, and the science of moving objects. Our media rich workshops combine technology, motion, and basic geometry to focus on storytelling through the medium of technology.
Stop-Motion Animation
Workshop
Every participant will build their very own custom, stop-motion puppet and bring it to life using the art, and the magic of stop-motion animation. Participants can choose from a variety of puppet templates or create one of their own! Participants will work together to create a series of animated scenes that follow the theme of Adventure! Includes a free DVD of all the animation for each participant. Great STEAM program.
Standard: 2 hours. Suitable for adults, teens, tweens, and youths ages 8 and up. Maximum 20 participants.
Deluxe: 2 hours. Suitable for adults, teens, tweens, and youths ages 8 and up. Maximum 35 participants. The deluxe workshop accommodates more participants and includes an additional animation station and professional animator.
Special Effects Makeup Workshop
This workshop is perfect for individuals who are passionate about makeup, Halloween enthusiasts, aspiring special effects artists, or anyone curious about the magic behind movie transformations. Led by skilled and experienced makeup artists, the workshop begins with an introduction to the tools, materials, and techniques used in special effects makeup. Participants will learn about prosthetics, sculpting, molding, and painting to create trauma effects like cuts, scars, burns, bruises, and more using a combination of special effects makeup, and non toxic household materials. Students will be creating effects on their own skin.
1.5 hours. Suitable for adults, teens, tweens, and youths ages 8 and up. Maximum 20 participants.
Claymation Workshop
Book us for an all new stop-motion animation workshop: Claymation! Participants will explore the fascinating process of claymation as they learn the tools necessary to make their own claymation films.
1 hour. Suitable for adults, teens, tweens, and youths ages 7 and up. Maximum 20 participants.
Sculpture Workshop
Shadow Puppetry Workshop
Participants will learn the art of designing and crafting their own shadow puppets. They will be guided through the process of cutting, shaping, and assembling the puppets, ensuring that each one is unique and reflective of their creative vision. Once the puppets are completed, participants will learn the techniques of shadow play and manipulation. They will explore the effects of light and shadow, discovering how to create different moods and atmospheres using their puppets. Through experimentation and practice, participants will develop the skills to bring their puppets to life and create dynamic and visually stunning shadow performances.
1.5 hours. Ages 3+ (Ages 3-7 must have a parent present). Maximum 30 participants.
TV Puppetry Workshop
Participants will learn how to puppeteer and use a monitor in the style of puppetry developed by Jim Henson for performance on film, and television productions. Participants will have the chance to test their skills at puppet eye focus, lip sync, and movement!
1 hour. Suitable for adults, teens, tweens, and youths ages 8 and up. Maximum 20 participants.
Marionette Building & Performing Workshop
The Marionette Building and Performing Workshop is a unique and immersive experience that invites participants to delve into the enchanting world of puppetry. Under the guidance of experienced puppeteers, participants will learn the step-by-step process of marionette building. Once the marionettes are complete, participants will be guided through the art of puppet manipulation and performance. They will learn the proper techniques for controlling the strings, bringing their marionettes to life with graceful movements and expressive gestures. Through interactive exercises and improvisation, participants will gain confidence in their puppeteering skills and discover the joy of storytelling through their marionettes.
1.5 hours. Suitable for adults, teens, tweens, and youths ages 8 and up. Maximum 20 participants.
Pixilation Animation Workshop
Definition: Pixilation involves the art of animating people. As each frame is captured, the actors must reposition themselves for the next shot. When the frames are played back, an illusion of movement is created.
Participants will create a stop-motion, group-animated project where everybody works together to create a live animated video starring the participants. Pixilation is a live action, experimental form of stop-motion animation where the people are the puppets!
Standard:
2 hours. Suitable for adults, teens, tweens, and youths ages 8 and up. Maximum 20 participants.
Deluxe:
2 hours. Suitable for adults, teens, tweens, and youths ages 8 and up. Maximum 35 participants.
Participants will sculpt step-by-step with the instructor, their very own ocean themed sea creature out of polymer clay! Available in person or via Zoom.
In Person: 75 minutes. Suitable for adults, teens, tweens, and youths ages 7 and up. Maximum 20 participants.
Via Zoom: 75 minutes. Unlimited participants. A clay kit for up to 20 participants will be mailed out before the scheduled program.
